Balrampur is a town and municipal board in the Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is situated on the bank of the Rapti River and is the district headquarters. The district was created on May 25, 1997, by dividing the Gonda District. Historically, Balrampur was the seat of the Balrampur Estate, a large talukdari estate in Awadh. It is known for its proximity to Shravasti, where Lord Gautam Buddha is believed to have displayed supernatural powers. The city is also famous for Balrampur Chini Mills Limited, one of India's largest sugar producers.
