Hosapete, officially renamed as Vijayanagara, is a city and district headquarters of Vijayanagara district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is located on the banks of the Tungabhadra River and is a gateway to Hampi, the erstwhile capital of the Vijayanagara Empire.
